Takayama is a city located in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture. Takayama's old town has been beautifully preserved with many historic buildings and entire streets from the feudal era, when the city was a thriving merchant town. It is also referred to as "Little Kyoto in Hida". You can take a stroll on Sannomachi Street, which was built during the Meiji and Daisyo periods, and experience local cuisine represented by Hida beef and Takayama ramen. Takayama Morning Markets (Asaichi)
Two morning markets (Asaichi) are held in Takayama on a daily basis, from 6:00 AM (one hour later in winter) to noon: the Miyagawa Market in the old town, and the Jinya-mae Market in front of the Takayama Jinya. The stands sell seasonal vegetables, fruits, and processed goods such as homemade pickled vegetables. In addition to food, traditional handicrafts, such as sarubobo and ichii itto-bori, are also available directly from the craftsmen (Hours: 7:00-12:00).

Ajikura Tengoku probably one of the best restaurants in Takayama. It specializes in and serves Hida beef in Yakiniku style. A popular restaurant in Takayama, both among locals and visitors from all over the world. The Ajikura Tengoku menu comes in both Japanese and English. Don't worry about ordering in Ajikura Tengoku. It offers a variety of beef options at various grades. You can choose from an ala carte menu or a combination platter.

Gasyomura in Shiragawa-go Village(about 90min)
Shirakawa-go is surrounded by mountains, paddy fields, trickling rivers, and is known as the kingdom of forests and streams. The village of Ogimachi in Shirakawa is one of the three world Heritage villages (Shirakawa-go, Ainokura and Suganuma in Gokayama) with the most households (152 households). River Oshirakawa originates from Mt.Hakusan. When you cross the river Shogawa, it turns white and cloudy. This is the origin of the name Shirokawa-go, meaning "the white river". The Ogimachi Castle Site Observatory is located in the northeast of the village of Ogimachi. Here, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Gassho-mura Village and Mt.Hakusan.
